Wakesurfing lets you ride an endless wave right behind the boat — no rope needed once you’re up. Our Liquid Force wakesurf board range includes surf-style, skim-style and twin-fin shapes across all sizes, built to deliver the most surfable, wave-like experience possible behind a boat.
What type of wakesurf board should you choose?
Wakesurf boards fall into two main categories: surf-style boards (thicker, wider, more volume — great for beginners and those who want a mellow surf feel) and skim-style boards (thinner, smaller, more technical — built for spin tricks and aggressive riding). Most beginners start with a surf-style board before progressing to skim.
FAQs – Wakesurf Boards
What is the difference between surf-style and skim-style wakesurfers?
Surf-style boards have more volume, are wider and easier to pump and ride for longer. Skim-style boards are flatter, thinner and better suited for spin tricks and technical riding. Beginners should start with surf-style.
Do I need a special boat for wakesurfing?
Yes — wakesurfing requires an inboard boat (the propeller is at the back-centre or under the hull, not on an outboard motor at the stern). Never wakesurf behind an outboard or I/O engine — it is extremely dangerous.
What size wakesurf board do I need?
Larger boards (5'0"+) are more stable and easier for beginners. Smaller boards (4'6" and under) are more manoeuvrable and better for experienced riders. Your weight and riding style both affect the right size.
Is wakesurfing hard to learn?
Wakesurfing is generally considered one of the more accessible water sports to pick up. Most beginners can get up and ride within a few attempts with proper instruction and a good beginner board.
What fins should I use on a wakesurf board?
Most boards come with fins included. Larger fins provide more stability and hold — better for beginners. Smaller fins allow more loose, slidey riding. Liquid Force fins use FCS and dual-tab systems — compatible replacement fins are available in our Wake Spares section.
