Lagos Wind Conditions
Lagos and the Alvor lagoon benefit from a reliable Atlantic thermal wind through the summer months, typically running 15–25 knots from the east-northeast. Conditions are most consistent from June through September, with strong afternoons and calmer mornings ideal for beginners.
Spring and autumn bring more variable winds — often powerful frontal systems that experienced riders love. We monitor the forecast daily and will advise on the best session window when you book.

WHO CAN RENT
Our kite gear goes out to independent riders who can rig, launch and self-rescue on their own. To rent, you need to:
Be 18 or older
Rentals are for adults — bring photo ID when you pick up.
Be an independent kitesurfer
Proof of level: VDWS Level 5+ or IKO Level 3+ — or completed lessons with our partner Algarve Watersport.
Sign the rental agreement
A short rental agreement covers care and damage — read it before you come in.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
Do I need a kitesurf licence or certification?
There is no legal licence required to rent or kitesurf in Portugal. However, we require proof of skill — the equivalent of VDWS Level 5 or IKO Level 3 (ride upwind, self-rescue, independent water entry and exit). A cert card, a video, or your word is fine. By renting you accept our rental contract: damage beyond normal wear is assessed at repair cost. We are not here to squeeze anyone — we just need the kit back in one piece.
Can I rent if I’ve never kitesurfed before?
Not on a solo rental. Kitesurfing has a real learning curve and unsupervised beginners put themselves and others at risk. Our partner school Algarve Watersport runs beginner lessons on Meia Praia. Once you can ride upwind reliably, come back and we’ll sort you with a rental.
What happens if there’s no wind?
Lagos is one of the windiest spots on the Algarve coast — wind days far outnumber flat days in summer. If conditions are genuinely unsuitable when you arrive, we will reschedule at no charge. If you take the kit out and conditions drop within 90 minutes, return it and we charge a €10 handling fee instead of the full day — the risk to the equipment is the same whether you ride for 20 minutes or 2 hours, so the clock starts the moment the kit enters the water. Applies to 1-day kitesurf and wingfoil rentals only.
Is the wetsuit included or extra?
The wetsuit is an optional add-on at +€5/day — it is not included in the base rental. For summer (June–August) most riders don’t need one. We’ll advise when you book.
Can you deliver gear to the beach?
We don’t currently offer beach delivery — all rentals are collected and fitted at our Lagos shop. It’s worth the trip: we spend 10–15 minutes making sure everything fits and you’re comfortable with the safety systems. Meia Praia is a 10-minute drive.
What if I damage something?
Normal wear and minor scuffs are part of kitesurfing — we don’t charge for those. Significant damage is assessed on return and we’ll agree a fair cost. We’re not looking to squeeze anyone — we just need to keep the kit in good shape for the next person.
Where should I go with the kite?
Most renters head to Ria de Alvor — a flat-water lagoon about 20 minutes from our shop, perfect for independent riding in sheltered conditions. We do not recommend Meia Praia for kitesurfing. It is the main beach of Lagos and about 10 minutes from the shop, but the wind there is side-offshore to offshore, which is the wrong call on a kite — if it drops or you cannot get back upwind, you are heading out to sea with no boat support. Prefer the west coast or Faro? That is your call — once the gear leaves the shop, you are responsible for where you ride.
What should I bring?
Just yourself and sun protection. We provide all the gear at our Lagos shop. Wear board shorts or a swimsuit — add a wetsuit (+€5/day) if you want coverage. Bring cash or card for payment.

Can I book same-day?
Yes, if availability allows. Message us on WhatsApp as early in the morning as possible — same-day bookings fill up fast in peak season. We recommend booking at least 48 hours ahead in July and August.
